Latest news regarding our Bowling Green

On this fine spring morning, when nature itself seemed to whisper, "Let the mowing begin," two brave souls—Mark Jackson and myself, embarked on a noble quest. The mission? To bestow order and precision upon the bowling green, awakening it from its wintry slumber. Armed with their recently serviced mower, gleaming like Excalibur itself, we approached our task with a happy mixture of enthusiasm and excitement.

This resounding success did not come without months of careful preparation. Throughout the winter, an enthusiastic team, led with energy and determination by Chris and Mark, worked tirelessly to ensure the green was ready to shine come spring. From vital turf maintenance to equipment upkeep, their commitment and expertise ensured the green remained in excellent condition, patiently awaiting its first cut of the season.

Under the benevolent gaze of the late March sun, the mower roared (or purred) to life, proving its mettle with every elegant sweep. Straight lines were cut with (almost) military precision, the edges were lovingly manicured, a sight so satisfying it could make even the most stoic groundskeeper shed a tear of joy.

This moment of triumph was made even sweeter by memories of last year, when the lines resembled something closer to abstract art. My inexperience (or perhaps a playful gust of wind conspiring against me) had led to patterns that, while unique, were certainly unconventional. But no more! Lessons had been learned, skills honed, and today the green stood as a testament to perseverance, teamwork, and the enduring power of a well-oiled mower.

Whilst we laboured, Christine and Danny turned up to add more TLC to the beautiful flower beds that surround our luscious green. Our gardens are looking spectacular, thanks to Danny and Clem, who bravely volunteered to step into the big shoes of Vince and Anne, who as we know laboured for many years.
