Faringdon Bowling Club
The Francis Rothwell Memorial Cup competition between Faringdon and Kingston Bagpuize was contested over two legs, both hosted at Faringdon due to the availability of two mats, allowing for concurrent matches to be played. The first leg, played in December last year, saw Faringdon secure victories in both triples matches, carrying a 16-shot advantage into the second leg. The second and final leg took place on Friday, 14th March, and proved to be a highly competitive and enjoyable contest for all involved.
The teams fought hard throughout, displaying great skill and sportsmanship. The game of Short Mat is notorious for making even the most experienced player fall foul of hitting the midway block of timber, rolling off the mat altogether and finding the correct weight is not easy. Can be amusing to watch, but frustrating to play.
Final scores over a total of 56 ends, were : Faringdon 55 Kingston Bagpuize 34
